Shared Web Hosting Reviews

If you have been comparing different hosts or reading reviews online then you have probably come across the hundreds/thousands of sites dedicated to reviewing the different hosting companies.

The problem is that many of them are just affiliate sites recommending the hosting companies with the highest payout or use software with fake star ratings or even fake reviews (yes, there is software that does that).

We aren’t going to waste people’s time or be unethical recommending a hosting company that we haven’t used.

What we can say is that we have used multiple hosts and we talk with other colleagues that run lots of sites that have shared their own experiences with various shared hosts and the best shared hosting we have found is Host Gator. We personally have 5 shared accounts at HostGator and have run some very intensive wordpress software on our accounts there with no problem in downtime or lag time for sites working.

(WordPress can be a very intensive use of Server CPU with the number of processes it runs so it’s a good gauge of truly testing a server if you are running lots of sites and we feel comfortable recommending Hostgator based on how much we many sites/files we have run through our accounts at Hostgator).

Hostgator’s basic shared plan for 1 website is called the  Hatchling plan and the more common plan is for multiple sites on 1 account which is called the Baby plan

Realize that www.HostingNow.info is focused on discussing shared web hosting plans. The most common shared hosting is the entry level stuff under $10/month. There other types of shared hosting  are more expensive called Reseller Hosting and Virtual Private Server Hosting

Hostgator is also good for Resellers plans but for Virtual Private Servers and Dedicated Servers then we use other hosts that specialize in those types of higher-end hosting. If you do have a site that is growing fast with lots of visitors or demands lots of resources then you will eventually outgrow any shared hosting plan.

Whoever you decide to choose, realize that the quality of support and response time can vary dramatically between web hosting companies. Once you deal with a hosting company with bad support you will never forget that experience (Trust Us), so that is the other reason why we recommend Host Gator. Their support system is the best that we have dealt with among shared hosts.

If you are dying to know who we would absolutely AVOID based on experience well that would be Just Host and Super Green (same company)…..They are “highly” recommended on many hosting review sites but it must be because of their affiliate payouts because we had 2 accounts with them that was the worst experience ever(In one months time they had almost 3 full days of downtime and at least 6 occasions where our sites were down for many hours. Not only that but their backup systems lost stuff and we have to rebuild multiple sites. Their support was horrible where it was difficult to understand them and when you inquire why your sites are down again…..they just kept saying “sorry for the inconvenience”……in fact we know of others that had the same experience……when you cancel your service they will offer you an ENTIRE year of free hosting to stay but we still cancelled as it was that bad)

There are other shared hosts that are decent but for the support quality and being close to/same price as Host Gator we decided to only recommend Hostgator.

We can’t guarantee what everyone’s experiences will be at Hostgator or other host mentioned in articles on this site. We can only share what our experiences have been and explain that we have run over 100 sites through Hostgator with no complaints.
