i am goin to open a website of news,blogs,communities,E-mail,web messenger,matrimonial,online buying and selling,file storing etc. so i need minimum 5gb of webspace and minimum 500 gb of database.
i am expecting around 2,00,000 members will login into my website. i dont know where to take web hosting. and also i want the meaning of what is shared and dedicated hosting. thanks in advance.
If you have dedicated hosting then you have a server, communication lines, and storage that is just for you. If you don't use the capacity, you still pay for it.
If you have shared, then the server is handling other sites and managing the storage and can distribute the load. there is a slight risk that a Denial of Service Attack might take down your site while working on others. there is also a slight risk that a worm or bug running from another site might look around on the machine and find your stuff. Costs less.
your ISP may require a dedicated if your traffic load gets too high. ask.
Note that if you are expecting 2 million members, you *really* should be hiring professionals to do this, rather than asking on Yahoo Answers. you will likely encounter a lot of scaling issues – things that work with 2 or 20 or 2,000 users will fail to work for 2 million.
Shared hosting as the name sounds, means you are sharing a server with many other websites. while that is ok, and has the advantage of being cheaper, you must understand the risk that such server may slow down or the server admin may put specific limitation to ensure that the server resource is available to all.
Dedicated hosting means that you own the server and your website(s) is/are the only ones in the server. you have more freedom in choosing how your website functions as you use the full capacity of the server. The disadvantage is the price as it is expensive.
dude it all depends on how much money u want to invest….naturally dedicated hosting would be superior to shared hosting but then shared hosting doesnt pinch your pocket ….if you are confident of your business plans and sure it will click as the way u project, my opinon is go for dedicated hosting…anyway to help you out just check out http://rightwebhosting.blogspot.com/ they have a list of the worlds top hosting sites there with their profiles and stuff…good luck
